His mother Judy worked at the New York Public Library, and his father Aaron Daniels was president of ABC Radio Network.
Daniels’ father is of Russian and Jewish ancestry. He has mentioned that he grew interested in comedy as a child after watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
His first joke was a Carnac the Magnificent joke for his father, which was eventually used in the episode “The Dundies” of The Office.
Daniels attended Phillips Exeter Academy and subsequently Harvard University, where he collaborated with Conan O’Brien on the Harvard Lampoon.

Greg Daniels developed an American remake of the BBC documentary series “The Office” in 2005, which was a big hit after the second season.
At the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, he received an award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Following the popularity of “The Office,” Daniels moved on to writing for “Parks and Recreation” before returning to “The Office” full-time for the final two seasons.
