A Western Australia family has filmed the terrifying moment a great white shark attacked their boat, biting at the motor.

The Tuckfield family said they were fishing on their 7.2-meter boat off the coast of Mandurah, south of Perth, on Good Friday when a large shark – about three or four meters long – approached.

They said it was circling for about an hour.

“He tried to take a chunk out of the motor, we were mesmerized,” David Tuckfield said.

Such a big majestic creature … we don’t appreciate them until you see them up close and it is their playground.”

But despite the no doubt scary encounter, the family says it won’t stop them from heading back out on the water, and in fact, it was the highlight of their Easter weekend.

Although not the only species involved in these attacks, the most frequent culprit is the White Shark.

White Shark attacks on boats have been reported from numerous places, including Australia, Japan, South Africa, Canada, South America, and the United States.

Fishermen for years have told tales about huge sharks trying to eat their motorboat engines, and now videos are proving this does indeed happen.

Shark experts believe that great whites, like the one seen in the below video shot just a few days ago, are attracted to electrical pulses emitted by some boat motors.
