Gordon Lightfoot Obituary

One of Canada’s greatest songwriters, Gordon Lightfoot has been announced dead by his family’s spokesperson, Victoria Lord.

He died of natural causes on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the age of 84. However, he also suffered several health-related challenges over the past few months, and even years.

Tributes have been pouring in across social media platforms after the announcement of his death.

“Gordon Lightfoot captured our country’s spirit in his music – and in doing so, he helped shape Canada’s soundscape. May his music continue to inspire future generations, and may his legacy live on forever,” Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau wrote.

“Gordon Lightfoot has died. He was a great songwriter and a wonderful performer. Sundown, you better take care/ If I catch you creepin’ ’round my back stairs,” Famous author Stephen King also wrote.

“He sat on top of the mountain. He shared what he saw. For so many around the world, they knew our stories because of him. Rest in peace, Gord. Golden Forever,” George Stroumboulopoulos wrote.

“We’re deeply saddened by the loss of 1998 Inductee Gordon Lightfoot. His music leaves behind an everlasting legacy in the hearts of Canadians everywhere. Our condolences to his loved ones, friends, and fans,”  the Official Twitter page of Canada’s Walk of Fame also wrote.

“I grew up with my parents playing Gordon’s music & have tried to keep this phenomenally talented Artist’s work alive on here over the years. His songs were stories, beautiful melodic stories. He leaves a timeless legacy,” Actor Michael Warburton also wrote.
