Legendary Oxford Speedway driver Gordon Kennett passed away at the age of 70. The former world no. 2 played for a number of teams over the course of a nearly 25-year career, including a successful stint with the Oxford Rebels.
With Eastbourne, Kennett developed his skills before making his Eagles debut in 1970.

He subsequently joined the Rebels in 1973, and in 1975, along with Norwegian superstar Dag Lovaas, he helped Oxford have their most prosperous year in a decade, finishing sixth in the tough British League and taking home the Midland Cup. In 1976, the Rebels team relocated collectively to White City in London following Oxford Stadium’s impending closure, while the Oxford Cheetahs were given a second chance in the lower division.
