Gordon Kennett, a legend of Oxford Speedway, passed away at the age of 70. Over the course of a nearly 25-year career, the former world no. 2 played for numerous teams, including an effective stint with the Oxford Rebels.
In 1970, Kennett made his Eagles debut after learning his craft with Eastbourne.

He then joined the Rebels in 1973, and in 1975, when the team placed eighth in the tough British League and won the Midland Cup, he and Norwegian superstar Dag Lovaas guided Oxford to their most successful year in a decade. Following Oxford Stadium’s impending closure, the Rebels squad relocated collectively to White City in London in 1976, while the Oxford Cheetahs were resurrected in the lower division.

Whether or not Gordon Kennett had children is unknown because there are no records of them. He stopped participating in speedway after retiring in 1995, although he continued to watch races and cheer on his kin. He then worked as an auto technician.
