Glenn Miller Disappearance: How did Glenn Miller disappear?

Miller was born in Iowa and spent his childhood in Fort Morgan on Colorado’s Eastern Plains. There, he played high school football and honed his trombone skills. He briefly attended the University of Colorado Boulder before leaving to pursue his music career.

Miller, an Army major, is thought to have boarded a UC-64A Norseman in Bedfordshire, England, on the day he went missing, Dec. 15, 1944. The plane was headed to France, where Miller was preparing a show for Allied troops.

According to Spragg, the plane was flying low due to poor visibility. When the fuel lines froze, the engine shut down, giving the pilot about eight seconds to react before the plane crashed into the water.

Because the plane was mostly made of lightweight materials, it most likely disintegrated on impact, killing everyone on board instantly. The aircraft and its three occupants have never been found.
