The Italian professional dancer, 33, who has been a staple on the show since 2015, was noticeably absent from the list of professional dancers for the upcoming season.
Pernice’s departure comes as Strictly prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary, overshadowed by controversy. Several former celebrity contestants have lodged complaints about Pernice’s behavior and teaching methods.
Notably, his 2023 partner, Sherlock actor Amanda Abbington, withdrew from the competition citing “personal reasons” and later criticized Pernice’s conduct during rehearsals.
Other celebrities, including Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh and former Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, have also reported difficult experiences working with Pernice, describing him as “intense during training.”

Despite the allegations, Pernice has denied any “abusive or threatening behavior.” He expressed his surprise at the accusations and reiterated his commitment to helping his dance partners achieve their best, stating that his passion and ambition were driven by a desire to win.
The BBC is currently investigating the complaints. A statement from law firm Carter-Ruck confirmed that the BBC is gathering evidence, and no further comments will be made until the investigation concludes.
Pernice has received support from fans and former dance partner Debbie McGee, who praised her time working with him during the 2017 competition.
Pernice won the glitterball trophy in 2021 with Rose Ayling-Ellis and previously reached the finals with Georgia May Foote, McGee, and Faye Tozer.
Strictly Come Dancing will return in the autumn, featuring judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke.
