Giovanni Falcone was an Italian judge and prosecuting magistrate who hailed from Palermo and became a household name as a result of his investigations into the mafia groups.

Giovanni Falcone was born in Palermo, Kingdom of Italy, on May 18, 1939, and died in Capaci, Italy on May 23, 1992, at the age of 53 years as a result of an assassination by the Sicilian Mafia.

Giovanni Falcone was married on two occasions: Rita Bonnici from 1964 to 1978 and to Francesca Morvillo from 1986 till his death in 1992.
Giovanni Falcone’s funeral was held at the Church of Saint Domenico, in Palermo, Italy, and he was buried at the Sant´Orsola Cemetery in Palermo, Italy.
Giovanni Falcone has been honoured on a number of occasions after his unfortunate death and the Palermo International Airport has been partly named in his honour.
