The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has launched initiatives to create tailored Unique Value Propositions for different categories of shippers to tackle the persistent issue of high business costs at the port.

The aim is to enhance access to essential services provided by the GSA while simultaneously reducing port and cargo destination expenses.
Mr. Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, CEO of the GSA, made this announcement at a breakfast meeting with shippers in Takoradi, Western Region.
The meeting, organized by Mr. Sarpong, aimed to strengthen the GSA’s relationship with shippers, focusing on improving value throughout the cargo shipment and delivery process.
During the engagement, one-on-one sessions were held between the CEO and shippers, particularly those with annual import/export volumes exceeding $20 million located within the Western Zone.

Mr. Sarpong emphasized the significant economic contribution of shippers to the national economy.
He mentioned that the Authority is considering assigning Relationship Managers to certain categories of shippers as part of its restructuring and realignment agenda. This move aims to provide real-time value for shippers at Ghana’s ports.
Mr. Sarpong reiterated the GSA’s main objective to reduce port costs, such as clearance expenses, container deposits, demurrage fees, and other avoidable charges, while also offering institutional support through permit acquisition/exemptions and proactive alerts.
Mrs. Agnes Asamoah-Duku, Head of the GSA’s Western Zonal Office, affirmed the organization’s commitment to open dialogue with shippers to promptly address any challenges they face.
Shippers expressed appreciation to the GSA for prioritizing their needs and pledged to actively participate in various zonal Shipper Committees to contribute to sector improvement.
