George Pérez Obituary (1954 – 2022)

Late Legendary comic book creator, George Perez, aged 67, was a beloved husband of 42 years to Rosalie nee Vargas.

He was a loving father of Michelle (Lou) Kaufman and Marci (Ken) Giambalvo; loving grandfather and caregiver to Mikey, Jake, Maddey, Max, Maddox and Katelyn; dear brother of Esther (the late Henry) Rodriguez, Julia Vasquez, Richard (Mame) Estrada, Tony Perez, The late Frank, Mario, Mike, Jenny, Lydia, Peter, Nick, Margie, Connie and Victor; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

An avid White Sox fan, he enjoyed bowling, softball and was a great “pal” and compadre to many.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd., (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett.

Funeral Service will hold on Thursday 8:45 a.m. to St. Peter Damian Church. Mass 9:30 a.m. Following Mass cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory.

Perez is known for multiple major DC and Marvel works, including New Teen Titans and Avengers.

In 2014, he drew his last regular series, the creator-owned Sirens miniseries for BOOM! In 2017, Pérez was inducted into The Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame. In 2019, he officially retired from regular comic book art due to his declining health.

Perez died in May 2022 as a result of complications from pancreatic cancer.
