McGinnis’s extraordinary career in basketball unfolded over 11 seasons in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). His journey reached its zenith during two stints with the Indiana Pacers in the ABA and NBA, where he played a pivotal role in securing ABA titles for the team in 1972 and 1973. Notably, he was named the playoff MVP during the Pacers’ second championship run.
Recognizing his unparalleled contributions to the sport, McGinnis received the highest honor when he was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2017. The Indiana Pacers also paid tribute to their iconic player by retiring his No. 30 jersey.
