George Denis Patrick Carlin was born on May 12, 1937, in Manhattan, New York, United States. His parents are Patrick John  Carlin, Sr., and Mary Bearey. His mother was a secretary while his father was the Sun advertising manager.

George Carlin’s father won the 1935 Mahogany Gavel Award. He was raised alongside an older brother named Patrick Jr. His parents were Irish immigrants who separated when he was two months old. His father died when he was eight years old.

George Carlin rose to prominence as a stand-up comedian in the 1960s and ’70s and had reinvented himself multiple times over his career. He hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975 and made frequent appearances on The Tonight Show.

George Carlin has made appearances in  Car Wash, Outrageous Fortune, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, The Prince of Tides, Dogma, Scary Movie 3, and Jersey Girl. He passed away on June 22, 2008, from cardiac failure in Santa Monica, California, United States.

George Carlin was ranked second on its list of the 50 best stand-up comedians of all time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2017. He was named second on Comedy Central’s list of top 10 American comedians in 2004. He was posthumously awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2008.
