Gracie Allen was born Grace Ethel Cecile Rosalie Allen on July 26, 1895, in San Francisco, California, USA. She made her first appearance on stage at age three and was given her first role on the radio by Eddie Cantor.

Gracie Allen soon began performing Irish folk dances with her three sisters, who were billed as “The Four Colleens”. At a performance in 1922, Allen met George Burns, and the two formed a comedy act.

They were married on January 7, 1926, onstage at the Palace Theatre in Cleveland by a justice of the peace. George Burns started his career in vaudeville, where he met his future wife and partner, Gracie Allen.

Gracie Allen and George formed a comedy act and became a popular duo. They performed together for over 40 years, and their act was known for its clever wordplay and Allen’s “illogical logic”.
