Geoffrey Roy Rush AC was born on July 6, 1951, in Toowoomba, Australia. Geoffrey Rush is the founding president of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

Geoffrey Rush began his acting career in the 1970s with the Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) in Brisbane, Australia. Rush made his Broadway debut in the absurdist comedy Exit the King in 2009, where he received a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his performance.

Geoffrey Rush was named the 2012 Australian of the Year. Geoffrey Rush has received three British Academy Film Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Geoffrey Rush gained mainstream popularity for his role as Captain Hector Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (2003–2017).

Geoffrey Rush is also known for the films, Finding Nemo (2003), Intolerable Cruelty (2003), Munich (2005), Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), and The Book Thief (2013).
