He began his career as an international free agent with the Tampa Bay Rays in November 2013. He made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Rays in 2014, finishing 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 29+13 innings pitched.

On July 31, 2018, the Rays traded Cabrera, Justin Williams, and Roel Ramrez to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Tommy Pham. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut on April 8, 2019, as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.
During his time with the Cardinals, Cabrera primarily served as a relief pitcher, bringing his dynamic fastball to the mound to challenge hitters.
He made 32 appearances for St. Louis in 2023, he had a 5.06 ERA, 38 strikeouts, and 32.0 innings pitched. Cabrera was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on July 21, 2023, in exchange for minor league catcher Sammy Hernández.
