According to the office, the marriage ceremony was part of a sacred tradition wherein the young girl, known as Naa Okromo, was chosen by the Gborbu deity to dedicate her life to serving the god.
Speaking at a press conference on April 2, 2024, Director of Administration at the Office, Rev. Dr. Daniel Nii Gyasi Ankrah, provided clarification on the matter.
He explained that Naa Okromo is destined to occupy the esteemed stool of Naa Yoomo Ayemuede, a position reserved for individuals of specific lineage and indigenes of Nungua.
“The role of Naa Yoomo Ayemuede is deeply rooted in tradition and religion, serving vital functions in ceremonies and rituals related to the Gborbu deity,” Rev. Ankrah stated.

He further elaborated on the responsibilities associated with the role, which include assisting the priest in performing special rites, overseeing important ceremonies such as the Homowo celebration, and maintaining the Gborbu Temple’s sanctity during the Homowo festival.
Rev. Ankrah emphasized that there is no carnal relationship or marriage involved in this tradition, contrary to public perception. He clarified that the items presented during the ceremony were symbolic and aimed to support Naa Yoomo Ayemuede in her traditional duties.
Moreover, Wor Lumo Boni Nuumo Noi Osekan Kpeneku reaffirmed that Naa Yoomo was not married to the Gborbu Wulomo and clarified that the girl in question is actually sixteen years old, not twelve.
“The overlord of the Ga-Adangbe state will for no reason attempt to violate the constitution of the republic,” Rev. Ankrah emphasized, addressing concerns about the legality of the ceremony.
