Gary Young was an American musician and music producer best known as the original drummer of the indie rock band Pavement from 1989 until his departure in 1993.

He was a member of the punk band The Fall of Christianity, which included Brian Thalken of The Authorities, early in the decade.
In 2023, he appeared in Louder Than You Think, a documentary on his own life and career directed by Jed I. Rosenberg.
The film made its global premiere at South by Southwest on March 13, 2023, and it won critical acclaim, winning the “Audience Award”: Alan French of Sunshine State Cinempex called it “illuminating and nostalgic,” and Serena Seghedoni of Loud and Clear Reviews called it “compelling.”
