Gary Colson’s dedication to the sport of basketball was unwavering, and he left an indelible mark on college basketball as a coach and executive. His career spanned 34 seasons, including coaching roles at Valdosta State University, Pepperdine University, the University of New Mexico, and California State University, Fresno.

With a winning record of 563 victories to 385 losses, Coach Colson held a win percentage of .594 throughout his distinguished career. His impact reached far beyond the scoreboard, influencing the lives of countless student-athletes along the way.

In addition to his contributions as a coach, Gary Colson ventured into the world of basketball operations. In 2002, he became a pivotal part of the Memphis Grizzlies’ front office, taking on the role of Assistant to the President of Basketball Operations.

Later in life, Coach Colson found fulfillment as a basketball instructor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His passion for nurturing and developing the talents of future players remained undiminished.
