William Gary Busey is an American actor best known for portraying Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story (1978), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor and won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor.

In the 1980s, Busey’s films included the critically acclaimed western Barbarosa, the comedies D.C. Cab and Insignificance, and the Stephen King adaptation Silver Bullet.
Busey also played one of the primary antagonists opposite Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the action comedy Lethal Weapon.
In the 1990s, Busey had prominent supporting roles in successful action films such as Predator 2, Point Break and Under Siege.
Busey also appeared in Rookie of the Year, The Firm, Black Sheep, Lost Highway, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

While in fourth grade, Busey moved from Goose Creek to Tulsa, where he later attended Bell Junior High School, then attended and graduated from Nathan Hale High School.
Busey attended Coffeyville Community College before attending Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, on a football scholarship and it was while at Pittsburg State University that he became interested in acting.
After a knee injury, Busey then transferred to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to study theater. However, he quit school just one unit short of graduation.

Having starred in over 150 films, Busey has an estimated net worth of $1 million.
His relatively small net worth is as a result of some financial difficulties he has been faced with.
On February 6, 2012, Busey filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in California claiming to be more than $500,000 in debt.
In the filings, Busey stated that he had less than $50,000 in real assets and roughly $500,000-$1 million in debt to various parties including the IRS, Wells Fargo, UCLA Medical Center, and others.
