American goaltender Garth Snow was born in Wrentham, Massachusetts, on July 28, 1969. He is well-known in the sport of ice hockey. During the sixth round of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, Snow was selected by the Quebec Nordiques from Mount Saint Charles Academy.

He immediately transferred to the University of Maine, where he spent four years playing football and was the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) winningest player for three years in a row. He was selected for the All-Tournament team in 1993 after guiding the team to a 42-1-2 record and the NCAA Championship.

His professional career began after he spent the majority of 1993–94 competing for the US national team, which included participating in the 1994 Winter Olympics. He saw his first NHL action in five games with the Nordiques.
