In the sixth round of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, the Quebec Nordiques selected Snow out of Mount Saint Charles Academy. He spent his first four years at the University of Maine, where he led the National Collegiate Athletic Association in victories for three consecutive years.

He was selected for the All-Tournament team in 1993 after assisting in the team’s 42-1-2 record and NCAA Championship victory. After spending the majority of 1993–94 as a member of the United States national team, which included participating in the 1994 Winter Olympics, he switched to a professional career, making his NHL debut for the Nordiques in five games.
