Gama was born in the town of Jabbowal, Amritsar District, Punjab Province of British India in 1878. On October 15, 1910, Baksh was given a version of the World Heavyweight Championship.

Gama competed and won almost 5,000 matches. His later days were sad; he had five sons and four daughters, and all of them died when they were young. Gama was distraught and temporarily speechless when his youngest son, Jalaluddin, died in 1945 at the age of thirteen.

During the partition, he moved to Pakistan and tried his hand at many unsuccessful companies, including a bus operation in Karachi called the “Gama Transport Service.” He died on May 23, 1960, in Lahore, Pakistan, following a brief illness.
