Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt, often known as The Great Gama, was a pehlwani wrestler and strongman in British India. He was the world’s undefeated wrestler champion in the early twentieth century.

Baksh was born in 1878 in the town of Jabbowal, Amritsar District, Punjab Province of British India, and was given a version of the World Heavyweight Championship on October 15, 1910. He is regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, having gone undefeated in a career lasting more than 52 years.
Gama defeated several of the world’s most famous grapplers, including “Doc” Benjamin Roller of the United States, Maurice Deriaz of Switzerland, Johann Lemm (the European Champion) of Switzerland, and Jesse Peterson (World Champion) of Sweden, on tour.

Gama competed and won almost 5,000 matches. His later days were sad; he had five sons and four daughters, and all of them died when they were young.

The great Gama died on May 23, 1960, in Lahore Pakistan after a period of illness.
