After months of claiming to have stepped back from local politics, Gabby was one of three guests on Accra-based Channel1 TV’s ‘What Are The Papers Saying’ programme, which aired on June 6, 2024.

During the show, he shared his insights on various political matters, including a recent survey indicating Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s lead over former Vice President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 presidential race.

Gabby remarked, “So, the positive aspect of this poll is it doesn’t mean that Bawumia will win the election. But I think the positive aspect is that it appears his candidacy is gaining traction. And if it’s gaining traction, it should help his base in tackling the apathy that is there.”

He emphasized the importance of energizing the party’s base and addressing voter apathy, stating, “I think that the basic antidote to apathy is your base believing that you can win. If they begin to believe that it is possible that you can win, then they will also be re-energized.”

Despite not holding an official government position, Gabby, often dubbed the Prime Minister in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, is known to wield significant political influence.

In a previous statement made on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Gabby expressed his decision to step back from active domestic politics, citing frustrations with certain narratives and disappointment with the lack of recognition for the party’s work.

His return to the political spotlight signifies his continued engagement and influence within the NPP and the broader political landscape of Ghana.
