In what marked only her second competition since the 2016 Rio Olympics, Douglas aimed to achieve her all-around qualification score of 51.000 for the upcoming Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, scheduled from May 30 to June 2.

However, her performance in the competition’s initial rotation on the uneven bars fell short of expectations. Douglas scored 10.100 after encountering difficulties, including falling twice and not executing her intended level of difficulty.

Prior to the event, Douglas faced challenges, as her flight from Dallas to Hartford was canceled due to stormy weather in the area.

Despite this setback, she managed to secure a private jet, arriving in Hartford around 6 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 16 2024 just hours before her scheduled practice session.

Despite only getting two hours of sleep, Douglas demonstrated strength in training and even showcased new skills, including a double layout on floor and a tucked standing full on the balance beam.

While Douglas had previously qualified for the U.S. Championships in vault, uneven bars, and balance beam based on her performance at the American Classic last month, she is not eligible to petition for participation in the all-around event.
