Freddie Prinze Jr. is an American actor, television and film producer, and screenwriter who was born on March 8, 1976, in Los Angeles, California.

He is the son of Freddie Prinze and Kathy Prinze.  His mother was  Puerto Rican and his father was a German immigrant.

Freddie Prinze Jr’s father Frederick James Prinze Sr was an actor and stand-up comedian. From 1974 to 1977, Prinze starred in the NBC sitcom Chico and the Man.

Prinze performed at several New York City comedy clubs, including The Improv and Catch a Rising Star, where he introduced himself to audiences as a “Hungarian” (part Hungarian, part Puerto Rican).

On January 29, 1977, his father, Freddie Prinze, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, prompting Prinze Jr. to relocate with his mother to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Prinze is buried near his father, Edward Karl Pruetzel, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills.

Freddie Prinze Jr. was less than a year old when his father died and did not speak publicly about his father’s death until he did so in Kevin Pollak’s documentary Misery Loves Comedy (2015).
