The five-time All-Star became the only player in modern baseball history to lead both major leagues in total home runs in 1992. While he never hit more than 37 home runs in a single season, he finished his career only 7 home runs shy of joining the elite 500-homer club. McGriff won the World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 1995.

He averaged more than 80 runs batted in (RBI) every year from 1988 to 2002, and he was the first player since the dead-ball era to lead both leagues in home runs in the American League (AL) in 1989 and the National League (NL) in 1992.

Fred McGriff was voted the Most Valuable Player of the 1994 World Series after his pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the ninth inning levelled the score at 7-7, with the National League winning in 10 innings.

From 1989 to 1994, McGriff finished in the top 10 in votes for his league’s Most Valuable Player Award, during which time he led the major leagues in home runs.

After retiring as a player, Fred McGriff has been involved in various baseball-related activities, including coaching and serving as a special advisor for teams.
