Fred Hampton had a brother names Bill Hampton. He died at the age of 71 in 2018. His death was confirmed by his close friends.

Bill Hampton was the primary steward of his brother Fred’s legacy and a reservoir of knowledge on the black experience in Maywood and across the country.

The Maywood Mayor, Edwenna Perkins said, “He was loved here in the community- him and his whole family. The Black Panthers started programs, such as the breakfast programs for children, that affected Maywood and the world. His whole family will be missed”.

As a youth, Hampton was gifted both in the classroom and athletically and hoped to play centre field for the New York Yankees. Hampton became active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and assumed leadership of its West Suburban Branch’s Youth Council.
