Fred Brooks Cause of Death

Fred Brooks Jr., an American computer architect, software engineer, and computer scientist, best known for managing the development of IBM’s System/360 family of computers, died on November 17, 2022, at the age of 91.

Details about his death have not been revealed. He also developed OS/360 software support package, then later wrote candidly about the process in his seminal book The Mythical Man-Month.

Brooks has written or co-written many books and peer-reviewed papers in addition to The Mythical Man-Month, including Automatic Data Processing, No Silver Bullet, Computer Architecture, and The Design of Design.

Brooks was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 1976 for his “contributions to computer system design and the development of academic programmes in computer sciences.”

In January 2005, he delivered the Turing Lecture on “Collaboration and Telecollaboration in Design.” He was elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery in 1994.

Brooks has received numerous awards throughout his career. The National Medal of Technology is one of these honours. These are just two of the numerous accolades bestowed upon Brooks.
