Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Ghana, has called for the discontinuation of the ambulance case against Ato Forson and others, labeling it as politically motivated and lacking merit.

In a social media post, Cudjoe expressed his doubts about the integrity of the Attorney General, suggesting that the case is driven by political motives rather than genuine legal concerns.

He questioned the likelihood of the Attorney General manipulating a suspect to incriminate the Minority Leader, Ato Forson.

“The AG is many things and he has lost some of my respect, but I doubt he would be this brazen to convince an accused person to ‘make false statements’ against Hon. Ato Forson,” Cudjoe wrote. He believes that the third accused, Richard Jakpa, might have been approached to cooperate in exchange for a lesser sentence, rather than being manipulated to target Ato Forson.

On May 23, 2024, during a court session, Richard Jakpa expressed his anger at the suggestion that he was supporting Ato Forson. He claimed that he had been approached multiple times by the Attorney General to incriminate Ato Forson.

“The A-G has on several occasions engaged me at odd hours to help him make a case against A1 and I have evidence for that…If he pushes me, I will open the Pandora’s box. I don’t understand why the A-G will accuse me of defending A1 when I’m here to defend myself,” Jakpa fumed in court.

Jakpa reiterated his readiness to reveal all evidence if pressured further, emphasizing his frustration and determination to defend himself.

Cudjoe’s comments and Jakpa’s courtroom revelations have fueled calls for the case to be reassessed and potentially discontinued.
