Frank Field (meteorologist) wife: Was Frank Field married? – Pioneering former WNBC meteorologist and health reporter Frank Field who died Saturday, July 1, 2023, in Florida was married. However, his wife of 75 years died several months ago and so he was not married at the time of death.

Field died at age 100, a few months after celebrating his 100th birthday. He was born on March 30, 1923.

Field was born Franklyn Feld and was of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage. His parents immigrated to America in 1909 and his last name was later Americanized to Field.

He had his meteorological training at Brown University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He also graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.A. in geology, Columbia University with a B.S. in optometry, and the Massachusetts College of Optometry with an O.D. He was a member of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Department of Preventive and Environmental Medicine faculty.

He began his media career in 1958 at WRCA-TV (later called WNBC-TV) and stayed there for nearly 25 years.

He moved to rival WCBS-TV, on August 12, 1984, where he worked for 11 years. He later moved to WNYW-TV for two years before ending his weather forecasting career at WWOR-TV.

Field rose to national prominence when Johnny Carson decided needling “NBC’s crack meteorologist” would be good fun and he became a regular guest on “The Tonight Show.”

Field matched wits with the popular comedian, somehow managing to maintain his dignity and air of authority.
