Franchy Cordero Vargas is a Dominican professional baseball outfielder and first baseman for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB).

He was born on September 2, 1994, in the city of Azua, located in the southwestern region of the country to Frank Cordero and Nidia Miguelina Vargas.

Franchy Cordero’s father, Frank, worked as an automotive electrician in Azua, Dominican Republic, about 60 miles west of the capital city of Santo Domingo. Frank Cordero loved baseball, and as he shared his passion with his son, their home was always buzzing with family and friends.

Cordero began his professional career in 2012 when he signed with the San Diego Padres as an international free agent. He spent several years in the minor leagues, working his way up through the Padres’ farm system.

In 2018, Cordero made his Major League debut with the Padres, appearing in 40 games and hitting .237 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.

Cordero signed a split contract with the New York Yankees on March 30, 2023, that would pay him $1 million in the major leagues and $180,000 in the minor leagues.
