Frances Xavier Cabrini siblings: Meet Rosa Cabrini

An Italian-American Roman Catholic nun named Frances Xavier Cabrini was canonized in 1946 for her selfless efforts on behalf of the poor. She was raised in a devout setting in rural Italy and is known as the patron saint of immigrants. As a child, she dreamed of serving as a missionary in China.

But when she applied to join a religious community at the age of twenty, entry was denied due to her ill health. Unfazed, she started volunteering as a layperson, eventually taking a religious vow at the age of 27, founding her own order at the age of 30, and working in Italy for the following nine years.

On the pope’s orders, she departed for the USA at the age of 39 and established a number of institutions to support the Italian immigrant population there.

Nine of her parent’s thirteen children, including Frances Xavier Cabrini, died before they turned adolescent. Frances Xavier Cabrini was the youngest. She was primarily nurtured by her older sister Rosa because when she was born, her mother was already fifty-two years old.
