Sirika, a prominent figure in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of using his position to favor a company associated with his family members.
The charges include awarding a contract to the company linked to his daughter and son-in-law for an airport extension project in Katsina and granting them consultancy roles in the Nigerian Air national carrier project.

Sirika and his co-accused pleaded not guilty to all six charges and were released on bail. The prosecution did not oppose bail but requested stringent conditions, leading to a bail set at 100 million naira ($70,000; £56,000) each and a travel ban.’
This case marks another high-profile corruption trial in Nigeria, following charges against former central bank governor Godwin Emefiele.
President Bola Tinubu, who took office in 2023, has vowed to tackle corruption, succeeding Buhari, who completed his two-term presidency. Sirika served as Minister of Aviation during Buhari’s tenure from August 2019 until the end of his term.
