Former Mississippi State football coach Bob Tyler has passed away at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of coaching excellence.

Tyler, a native of Water Valley, Mississippi, began his coaching career in 1957 in his hometown. Over the next 11 years, he achieved remarkable success at various high schools across the state, amassing an impressive record of 91 wins, 19 losses, and 6 ties.
Transitioning to the college ranks, Tyler served as an assistant coach at powerhouse programs such as Alabama and Ole Miss, working under the legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant at Alabama.

In 1972, Tyler joined Mississippi State University as the offensive coordinator before being promoted to head coach the following year.
During his tenure as head coach, Tyler led the Bulldogs to four winning seasons, including two nine-win campaigns.
Not only did Tyler excel on the field, but he also contributed off the field, serving as the athletic director alongside his coaching responsibilities from 1976 to 1979.
In recognition of his remarkable career, Tyler was inducted into the Mississippi State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
