Former Independent Star Billy Reil Passes on At 44

Former independent wrestling star Billy Reil has passed away at the age of 44, leaving the wrestling community in mourning.

PW Insider broke the news of Reil’s untimely death on April 29,2024 following information from his family. Reil had been battling various health issues in the year leading up to his passing.

Hailing from South Philadelphia, Reil’s passion for wrestling was ignited by watching WWF events at The Spectrum in the 1980s.

He became involved in the industry after the rise of ECW in Philly, frequenting the ECW arena and making connections within the wrestling world. Reil made his in-ring debut in 1995 and went on to compete for promotions such as Jersey All-Pro Wrestling and various independent circuits.

Beyond his wrestling career, Reil was also a trained actor, starring in independent films like “Purgatory” and “The Pit.” He gained local recognition in 2002 after bravely intervening in a mugging incident involving his neighbor, demonstrating his courage and heroism outside the ring.

Following news of his passing, tributes poured in on social media from fellow wrestlers and industry figures. Brett Lauderdale of GCW reflected on Reil’s life, describing it as a “cautionary tale” while honoring his contributions to the wrestling community.
