Ian Hamilton, former midfielder for Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Sheffield United, has died at the age of 73 in May 2024.

Hamilton began his career with Chelsea, becoming the club’s youngest league player and goalscorer at 16. After a brief spell at Southend, he joined Aston Villa in 1969.
At Villa, he had a successful career, helping the club win the Third Division title in 1972 and the League Cup in 1975. He also played in the League Cup finals in 1971 and 1975, winning the latter.

After his time at Villa, Hamilton played for Sheffield United for two seasons before moving to the North American Soccer League. He played for the Minnesota Kicks and San Jose Earthquakes.
Following his professional career, Hamilton spent 17 years coaching boys’ soccer at Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio. He later returned to coach girls’ soccer at the same school after a seven-year gap.
Hamilton’s contributions to football, both on and off the field, are remembered by fans and players alike.
