Limond, a former British and Commonwealth light-welterweight champion, was found unresponsive in his vehicle in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, on April 6, 2024.

He was rushed to Monklands Hospital, where he later died on April 15, 2024. Police Scotland has confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Josh Taylor, a former world champion himself, expressed his grief, stating that boxing “will be a duller place” without Limond. He described Limond as a larger-than-life character who brought humor and positivity wherever he went.

Limond’s illustrious boxing career spanned from 1999 to 2023, during which he won 42 out of 48 professional fights, with 13 victories coming by knockout.

Notably, four of his losses were against fighters who went on to win world titles, including Amir Khan, Anthony Crolla, Erik Morales, and Ricky Burns.

Originally a footballer, he transitioned to boxing and went on to claim numerous titles, including the British super-featherweight, light-welterweight, and lightweight titles, as well as the Commonwealth light-welterweight, WBU lightweight, and IBO Inter-Continental lightweight crowns.

Limond’s son, Jake, paid tribute to his father on social media, describing him as a warrior who fought bravely until the end. Limond had recently announced his retirement from boxing but was scheduled to face Joe Laws in Glasgow on May 3, 2024.

Fellow boxers and members of the boxing community joined in mourning Limond’s passing, with many expressing their shock and sadness at the news. Anthony Crolla described Limond as one of the best men he ever met, while Curtis Woodhouse remembered him as a great fighter and a great man.

St Andrew’s Sporting Club, where Limond was set to fight Laws, also paid tribute to him, describing him as a legend of the sport and an infectious character who will be greatly missed.
