Lanigan’s association with rugby league began in the 1960s as a player, but it was his pivotal role as an NRL Ground Manager that left an indelible mark on the sport in recent years.

In 1999, Lanigan embarked on his journey as a Ground Manager under the tutelage of the esteemed NRL Ground Manager, Eric Cox, after a recommendation from Jim Hall.

Over the span of 23 seasons, Lanigan supervised more than 650 games as a Ground Manager, including prestigious events like Grand Finals, State of Origins, and Tests.

His dedication and commitment to his role were evident when he was bestowed the honor of ringing the two-minute bell at the opening of the new Allianz Stadium during Round 25 of the 2022 season.

As a mark of respect for Lanigan’s invaluable service and legacy, all NRL Match Officials and Game-Day Staff will wear black armbands at all venues during Round 5 fixtures.

Bob Lanigan is survived by his wife Glenda, daughter Dearne, granddaughters Killarney and Tyla-Belle, and son-in-law Gavin.

His enduring passion and unwavering dedication to rugby league have left an indelible legacy that will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
