The former breakfast TV host said she was told she had the condition 18 months ago after she experienced symptoms of anxiety and brain fog.

Phillips, who is currently participating in a drug study that scientists hope could change treatment of the incurable disease, said she was speaking out about her diagnosis in an effort to eradicate the stigma associated with Alzheimer’s.

She told The Mirror “This disease has ravaged my family and now it has come for me. And all over the country there are people of all different ages whose lives are being affected by it – it’s heartbreaking.

“I just hope I can help find a cure which might make things better for others in the future.” Fiona Phillips is taking Miridesap, a novel medicine that experts believe can halt or perhaps reverse his sickness.

The medicine is given three times a day using tiny needles and is being tested at the University College Hospital (UCH) in London.
