Born in Bray, County Wicklow, Balor attended St. Cronan’s School in Bray.
Balor played association football and Gaelic football prior to becoming a professional wrestler.
He grew up watching World of Sport and WWF (now WWE) shows, and his favorite wrestlers included The British Bulldogs, Shawn Michaels, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Savio Vega, and Koko B. Ware.
Devitt was believed to have signed with WWE on May 15, 2014.
WWE officially confirmed Devitt’s deal on July 28, revealing he would report to NXT the following day.

On September 24, his new ring name was revealed to be Finn Bálor, a combination of Fionn mac Cumhaill and Balor from Irish mythology (the latter is also Gaelic for “Demon King”).
The following day, Bálor made his NXT debut, assisting Hideo Itami against The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor).
Bálor wrestled his final NXT match on 30 July, teaming with Shinsuke Nakamura to defeat Bobby Roode and Samoa Joe.
Balor uses a double foot stomp named “Coup de Grace” as a finisher. He also uses a lifting single underhook DDT (named “Bloody Sunday” in NJPW and “1916” in WWE) as a finisher.
He has also appeared as a playable character in the video games WWE 2K16, WWE 2K17, WWE 2K18, WWE 2K19, WWE 2K20, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, WWE 2K22, and WWE 2K23.
