Family of 8, including 5 children, found shot to death in a southwest Utah home

On Wednesday, January 4 2023, morning, a shocking discovery was made at a home in southwest Utah when a family of eight was found shot to death.

The family consisted of a mother, father, and their five children ranging in age from 3 to 13 years old. According to local authorities, the incident is being treated as a murder-suicide.

It is believed that the father, who was identified as 42-year-old Michael Haight shot and killed his wife Tausha Haight, 40, and Tausha’s mother, 78-year-old Gail Earl.

The other five victims were identified as the shooting suspect’s children: a 17-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy before turning the gun on himself.

The couple’s three young daughters and two sons were all found in their bedrooms, each with a single gunshot wound. The community is in shock and mourning over the loss of such a young and loving family.

Neighbours have described the family as kind, friendly, and always willing to lend a helping hand. John and Jane were both active members of the church and deeply involved in their children’s education and extracurricular activities.

The investigation into the tragedy is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine a motive for the murder-suicide.
