Fabiano Caruana is the reigning US Chess Champion and an Italian and American chess grandmaster.

He is one of the world’s wealthiest chess players, with a net worth of $13 million. He has won tournaments and games that have resulted him substantial income.

Caruana is the third-highest-rated player in history, with a peak rating of 2844. Caruana, a chess prodigy, represented the United States until 2005, when he switched to Italy’s national federation.

At the age of 14, he achieved grandmaster status and won his first Italian Chess Championship, which he repeated in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

Caruana won the Sinquefield Cup in 2014, with a performance rating of 3098, the best ever at the elite level. In 2015, he switched his national federation membership back to the United States, and in 2016, he won the US Chess Championship.

Caruana qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2016 by winning the FIDE Grand Prix 2014-15. He finished second against Sergey Karjakin. He won the 2018 Candidates Tournament, becoming the first American to challenge Bobby Fischer for the undisputed World Chess Championship since 1972.
