Ex-Swansea and Leeds keeper Glen Letheren dies aged 68

Glen Letheren, the former goalkeeper for Swansea City and Leeds United, has passed away at the age of 68.

Letheren, who hailed from Dafen near Llanelli, had been battling primary peritoneal carcinoma since May 2023. He succumbed to the illness in June 2024.

Beginning his career at Leeds, Letheren later went on to make 21 league appearances for Swansea.

His time with Swansea spanned from 1979 to 1981, a period marked by the club’s notable ascent through the divisions under the management of John Toshack.

Throughout his career, Letheren also played for Scunthorpe, Chesterfield, Blackpool, Oxford City, Scarborough, and Bangor City. He notably contributed to Bangor City’s journey to the FA Trophy final in 1984. Additionally, he had a stint at Llanelli.

Although he received call-ups to the Wales squad, Letheren never earned a senior cap for his country.

Following his retirement from playing, Letheren transitioned into coaching and scouting roles. He served with various clubs including Swansea, Exeter City, Chester City, Leicester City, and the Football Association of Wales.
