Evel Knievel’s career took off in the 1960s and 1970s when he began attempting and completing increasingly dangerous stunts, such as jumping over cars and fountains. He even attempted to jump across the Snake River Canyon in Idaho, though the stunt was ultimately unsuccessful.

Evel Knievel, in search of adventure, participated in professional rodeos and ski jumping competitions, even winning the Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Association Class A Men’s ski jumping championship in 1959. He then enlisted in the United States Army in the late 1950s.
