‘Essence’ By Wizkid And Tems Has Reached 1 Million Shazams

Shazam Entertainment app has announced that ‘Essence’ by Wizkid and Tems has been searched on their platform for one million times. The app is responsible for identifying music, movies, advertising, and television shows based on a short sample played and using a microphone on the device.

‘Essence’ has become the most-streamed African song this year; topping charts across the world. A few days ago, it became part of the top ten songs on US Apple Music, being the first song made by an African to reach that level.

The song has been jammed to by top celebrities like Justin Bieber, Ciara, and husband Russell Wilson, and more. The entire album which holds the song, ‘Made In Lagos’ album is the most streamed African album on Spotify.

Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ tour is already selling out venues in Europe and America rapidly. Tems has also now become one of the most sought-after young African artistes this year.
