Interestingly, ELEW began his career as a jazz purist, working as a sideman for Wynton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson, Elvin Jones, Jon Hendricks, and Roy Hargrove, as well as as a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
However, he developed an interest in rock music and began a solo career as a crossover musician, swiftly garnering notoriety for his instrumental “Rockjazz” piano interpretations of major rock singles such as The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It, Black” and The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside.”
In March 2010, he published his debut album of instrumental covers, ELEW Rockjazz Vol. 1, under his own label, Ninjazz Entertainment.
ELEW has previously shared the stage with Sting, The Roots, Natalie Cole, and Esperanza Spalding.
