Emerson Allsworth: Former Member of the Florida House of Representatives dies at 96

Emerson Lincoln Allsworth, a Florida politician and lawyer who represented Broward County in the Florida House of Representatives from 1959 to 1966, has died. Allsworth was born on the 24th of August, 1926, and died on the 24th of May, 2023. He was 96.

Emerson was born in Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1926 to the late Emerson Lincoln Allsworth of La Junta, Colorado, and Virginia Fenn of Atlanta, Georgia.

He attended Miami Senior High School, the University of Miami, and the University of Miami School of Law. He served two (2) years in the United States Navy during WWII and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve during the Korean War.

Emerson Allsworth | Florida Memory

Allsworth moved to Fort Lauderdale after graduating from law school in 1952, and married Shirley McDowell of St. Louis, Missouri, the same year.

Until her death in 2015, the couple had been happily married for nearly 62 years.

Allsowrth worked as a lawyer in Fort Lauderdale for nearly seventy years and never retired.

Emerson Scott Allsworth, John Allsworth, Terrance Allsworth, and Mark Allsworth, as well as six (6) grandchildren and two (2) great-grandchildren, survive him.
