He was born in Sabana Grande de Boyá, Dominican Republic. De La Cruz signed as an international free agent with the Cincinnati Reds on July 2, 2018.

De La Cruz signed for $65,000 and made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Reds in 2019, hitting.285 in 43 games. He did not play in a game in 2020 since the minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
