He was born in Sabana Grande de Boyá, Dominican Republic. De La Cruz signed as an international free agent with the Cincinnati Reds on July 2, 2018.
De La Cruz signed for $65,000 and made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Reds in 2019, hitting.285 in 43 games. He did not play in a game in 2020 since the minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Reds added De La Cruz to their 40-man roster on November 15, 2022, to keep him out of the Rule 5 draft. De La Cruz was promoted to the major leagues for the first time on June 6, 2023, as a result of Nick Senzel’s injury.
He hit his first major league home run on June 7. On June 23, 2023, he hit for the cycle against the Atlanta Braves, becoming the youngest player to accomplish so since César Cedeo in 1972.
