The only partner she ever mentioned in interviews and social media has been her training partner/ friend, Susie Rodger. The two were often seen swimming together and training for the Paralympic.

Simmonds apart from swimming also focuses on her position as the patron of the Dwarf Sports Association, the UK along with swimmer Matthew Whorwood.

In January 2019, Simmonds was appointed to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee board.

Simmonds is also an ambassador for the Scout Association and a Girlguiding leader in Manchester, where she is nicknamed Aqua Owl. She is also a Wateraid ambassador.
